Poverty
Read this from the Straits Times (Sat 6 Aug 2005), which sets me thinking:
‘UN Millennium Development Goals set to reduce world poverty by half in 2015.’
‘2/3 of the world's poor live in Asia.’
‘There is so much aid that never reaches down.’
‘This is a humanitarian cause... It's about how to save our brothers and sisters.’
Yes, it is impossible to wipe out poverty in the world. But, we are not looking at wiping out poverty completely. Instead, it is reducing poverty and extending a helping hand to our fellow brothers and sisters out there who just couldn't earn enough to feed themselves.
Even if we turn our attention to reduction of poverty, you might say that it is also mission impossible. The world has been trying to do that for centuries without much success to boast.
What makes me think I can do anything about it when people way before me can't? I can only say I'll like to play a part and let those suffering know that there are people in the world who want to help. Not only to help but help constructively, no matter how hard it takes.
Someone got to help. Something got to be done. I'm sure somehow things will work out.
