A time when I love seeing those National Day Flags stuffed with sweets in its holder
And wished that mummy would buy one for me.
A time when I used to draw lovely pictures during art classes
And strive to draw better next year.
A time when I sang my hearts out those patriotic National Day songs during assembly
And really grew to love Singapore.
A time when I thought the rows of flags hung outside each HDB apartment look beautiful
And hope that everyone would diligently hang one too.
A time when my sis and I would excitedly watch National Day parade
And imagined that we were there watching live.
A time when it was the only time when Singaporeans can watch fireworks
And wished that it will never end.
A time when I had a chance to perform during National Day parade
And felt pretty proud and important to be part of it.
A time when the National Day tickets were so hot
And everyone had to queue for it for days.
A time when someone queued for the tickets overnight for me
And I was very touched by him.
A time when both of us enjoyed the parade
And I wished we could watch it again together.
A time when I got so busy
And I forgot all about watching.
A time when I got so tired of watching the same old mass display every year
And I stopped watching it.
A time when I wished I had the same excitement I had all those years
And stop feeling emotionless.
This year, a mini National Day Flag sits on my table to remind me of my memories I had.
Just that this one still does not have sweets stuffed in its holder...

Life is beautiful,
Dance like no one is watching,
Love like you will never get hurt,
Love like you will never get hurt,
Sing like no one is listening,
Live like it is heaven on earth,
Enjoy this day.
